Estes Fruit Stand

This is the time of year the plethora of fruit stands in the area get ready to open for the season.  Until the first local cherries are harvested, most of the fruit stands will remain closed.  But Estes Fruit Stand (north of Lincoln Rock Park) has been open for a few weeks because they sell these beautiful hanging baskets of flowers.   Soon, the summer fruit season will be in full swing and there will be dozens of fruit stands opening in the local area.  Some are very small family operations, selling just the fruit they grow themselves and others are larger, selling everything from the fresh in-season fruit… and also jams and jellies, aplets and cotlets and vegetables from nearby growing areas like Quincy and Yakima.  173989-350527-thumbnail.jpg

So, if you’re coming to the Wenatchee area to look at local real estate, or just to enjoy the multitude of recreational opportunities be sure to stop by one of these fruit stand and enjoy fruits fresh from the tree.

Here is the Douglas County Courthouse in Waterville, where all the real estate transactions in the county are recorded.  This is a beautiful old building, originally built in 1905.  Waterville was incorporated in 1889.

Waterville Museum

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

cimg0081.jpg

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to actually spend some time at the Waterville Museum, which is officially the "Douglas County Museum".  Waterville is the county seat of Douglas County, so it would stand to reason the county museum would be there.  Anyway, I’ve been to and through Waterville many many times but never had the time to splurge on stopping at the museum.  It’s a very nice and interesting museum and I would recommend a stop if you’re at all interested in pioneer life.  I bought a book called "Beginnings" which is the early history of the settlement of the Waterville area.

I love building murals, and the picture above was taken at the end of the museum building.  The scene is actually looking down Pine Canyon where the Columbia River first comes into view as you drop down off the plateau from Waterville.  That’s my husband in the middle of the picture, by the car.

Waterville, Washington is about 30 miles North and slightly east from Wenatchee.  With escalating real estate prices in the Wenatchee Valley, Waterville is offering some pretty good values right now.

Central Washington Orchards

                                                                                                                                                                                    cimg0067.jpg

This is one of my favorite scenes while driving up the Wenatchee Valley toward Cashmere… the hillsides dotted with fruit orchards.  Most of the orchards in the upper valley (Cashmere to Peshastin) are pears, but there are also apple trees and a few pear trees… very few peach and apricots.

Cashmere & Monitor Area

Wenatcee River
Today was reserved for showing homes to some clients coming in from out-of-town, but they had to delay their trip.  So, after cancelling all my appointments, I took my husband, Max, for a Friday morning drive up the valley toward Cashmere.  We stopped at the new Apple Annie’s Antique Gallery for a coffee and hot chocolate then wound around on the backroads for a while.  I took several pictures, but like this view toward Wenatchee of the Wenatchee River.  The bridge in the distance is the Sleepy Hollow bridge, so we are just outside of the city of Wenatchee.   The river is running pretty high because of the warm weather we had about a week ago.  It’s cooled off considerably now and we’ve been getting some rain storms the last several days.    We only saw a few homes For Sale signs along this route.   Inventory in the Cashmere is very limited.  We rarely ever see anything come on the market in Monitor.  I only can assume that most of the property in that area, which is mostly agricultural, is passed down within families… or sold to the neighboring locals.

Wenatchee Homes For Sale $250K - $2.5M

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Earlier in the week I posted some links to the inventory of homes for sale in the $250,000 and under price ranges.  Through my comments section, I was asked to post what is available over $250,000.  Here is a link to the inventory of single family homes in the Wenatchee and East Wenatchee area from  $250,000 - $400,000.

Here is a link of the inventory of homes from $400,000 - 2,500,000.  The most expensive home is a log home on the Columbia river.

These links are for inventories of single family homes (Wenatchee & East Wenatchee) only and do not include condos and/or manufactured homes on land or acreage.   These links will be good for one month, but inventory is subject to constant change.  Home sell and news homes come on the market every day, so please contact me for the current status of any specific property.

If you wish to see some additional information posted, please let me know.

City Of East Wenatchee

Here is a picture of the very attractive City of East Wenatchee offices and library.   This building is located on 9th St. just east of Valley Mall Parkway across from the old, now abandoned, East Wenatchee High School.  From personal experience, I can warn you to watch your speedometer very closely driving through this section.  The city patrols are looking to pad the city budget!

Determining the Value of a View in Real Estate

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

I was reading the Rain City Guide (a blog on Seattle real estate) this morning and came across an interesting and well written post entitled "What is a View Worth" .  I highly recommend checking it out.    We have a tremendous amount of "view" property in the Wenatchee area but, as pointed out in the article, not all views are created equal.
